Lake Nakuru National Park

A small Rift Valley park, famous for the flamingos that turn the lakeshore pink and for its rhinos, both white and black.

Lake Nakuru is shallow and alkaline, ringed by marsh, forest and rocky hills. A national park since 1968, it has hundreds of bird species. From above you see thousands of pink dots on the water — flamingos, which sometimes take off all at once.

It's one of Kenya's best places to see white rhino and, with luck, black rhino too, along with buffalo, waterbuck, zebra, baboons and, rarely, tree-climbing lions.
