Sardegna 2 is a group of white sandbanks in crystal-clear water off Malindi — Italians named it after Sardinia for a reason. You get there by boat through the marine reserve, where fishing is banned and the coral is intact.

We leave from the beach early in the morning, cross the first reef where dolphins often pass, and enter Malindi Marine Park: coral, madrepores and huge numbers of colourful fish.

We follow the coast to Sardegna 2, sandbanks and transparent water. After photos we head to Mayungu, the fishing village, looking for starfish and pufferfish. Lunch on board with grilled lobster and shellfish.
